Meet the 2013 Ford Fusion which debuts at the Detroit Auto Show.

Is it a Jaguar or is it a Aston Martin? It is actually a little of both, at least from the front (Aston Martin) and the back (Jaguar). And now just like the Dodge Dart, the new Cadillac ATC and the new 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, we can give you the complete scoop on the new car.

This newest Ford Fusion (the Mondeo is Europe) will be built in three very different flavors. There’s the new gasoline powered model, a traditional hybrid version, and even a plug-in Energi gasoline and electron sipping sibling.

But here’s the big news, besides of course the sleek and sexy new lines of the mid-sixed fusion. The Hybrid Fusion (according to Ford) will get 46-MPG while the plug-in Energi model will be rated at 100 MPG. Which is very close to Prius territory and certainly the best in the mid-sized sedan segment.

Check out the video below to hear from the head designer of the new Ford Fusion as to what inspired the new car’s style.

Let’s start with the gasoline powered model. Ford says it will offer three powerplants which include a:

  • 2.5-liter normally aspirated inline-four which will male 170 horsepower
  • 1.6-liter EcoBoost four that will pump out 179 horsepower
  • 2.0-liter EcoBoost four that will chrn out  237 horsepower

Front-wheel-drive will be standard for all of the Fusion the models, but the top-of-the-line EcoBoost Fusion can be ordered with all-wheel-drive.  And you better like your transmission with six automatic gears because that the way the Fusion will come unless you opt for the normally aspirated model which will be available in a six speed manual.

Ford is proud of the both the Hybrid and the plug-in Energi models.

“Our vision for Fusion was clear – deliver the very best of what One Ford stands for,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of Global Product Development in a press release. “We brought our global teams together around a blank slate with the charge to develop a midsize car with groundbreaking design and jaw-dropping fuel economy – one that featured technologies to help make our customers safer and better drivers.”

Perhaps the big news is the Fusion Hybrid which Ford expects will get 47 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. That’s better than the both the Camry Hybrid and Sonata Hybrid. The Fusion Hybrid will be powered by 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-four that produced 185 horsepower.

The Fusion plug-in Energi hybrid will be able to go for a short period on only electricity alone with a total range of about 500 miles according to Ford. Ford has yet to release the complete details so as always please stay tuned.
