Audi blows U.S. a kiss with the supercharged Audi SQ5

Here’s the Audi SQ5!

This is exiting for those who want to spank Lexus RX350 F-Sports and BMW X3s – the Audi SQ5 will show at the 2013 North American International Auto Show/Detroit Auto Show. This isn’t some Europe-only model either – the 354 hp (which makes 346.65 lbs-feet of torque) supercharged Audi SQ5 is coming to the United States.

Now everyone say Ein herzliches Dankeschön to Audi!

Why am I so chuffed about this crossover getting more juice? I always thought the Q5 was an excellent vehicle that needed more ants in its pants. Now, it’s got those ants! According to Audi, ” kW (354 hp) and 470 Nm (346.65 lb-ft) of torque The new top-of-the-line model, which was designed specifically for markets such as the United States, Canada and China, uses a 3.0 TFSI engine with forced induction. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).”

I’m a little bummed that there will be no six-speed manual available here, but with today’s driving ninnies shying away from the good stuff, who can blame Audi? There will be an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission (I sampled one on the Audi S8 and it’s remarkably competent) and quattro all-wheel drive.

The rest of the upgrades have to do with handling, braking and aesthetics. “The chassis of the Audi SQ5 lowers the body 30 millimeters (1.18 in). The springs and shock absorbers are more tautly tuned for a sporty and balanced setup. The 20-inch wheels are fitted with 255/45-series tires; 21-inch wheels are available.

This is a unique interior specifically designed for the Audi SQ5.

The brake calipers on the front axle sport the SQ5 badge. The electromechanical steering not only plays a major role in the efficiency of the SQ5, it also provides very precise road feel. Audi also offers the optional dynamic steering with a steplessly variable ratio. Control of it is integrated in the optional Audi drive select system, which allows the driver to switch among several modes in various systems. ” – – Audi AG

I was a little disappointed with Audi’s recent Allroad as it seemed to make no sense with a vehicle like the Audi Q5 around. Now that the Audi SQ5 is coming; a shift will occur in buyer’s paradigm. Simply put, I think a lot of folks who were considering an Avant or Allroad will freak out over the Audi SQ5’s performance.
