The stunning 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray – revealed in Detroit NAIAS

The anticipation is over as the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray debuts at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS). This updated design features changes to every aspect of the vehicle to incorporate the best new technology, from the engine to the body, and provides drivers with an unparalleled driving experience.

The 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette has a 60% stiffer body that helps the car stay firmly planted to the road. It weighs 99lbs less with an entirely aluminum frame and aluminum in much of the chassis as well. There’s also carbon fiber in the roof and hood, even in the entry level vehicle.

The real star of the show is the engine. For the first time ever, the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette combines direct injection, cylinder deactivation and vertical valve timing to work together and improve power torque and efficiency. And the power is pretty impressive. The car boasts 450 hp, 450 lb-ft torque and greatly improved fuel efficiency.

A 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching knows what you’re going to do the second you move the shifter. Instead of waiting for the shift to be complete, it recognizes the slightest movement and immediately begins adjusting the throttle. It works just as well with downshifting, for smooth, seamless gear changes.

In an effort to organize the complex number of customizable features, they’ve introduced the Driver Mode Selector which adjusts 12 different aspects of the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette. Things like magnetic selective ride control, exhaust sound, transmission shift pattern and electronic throttle control are all adjusted at once via five modes.

You can choose weather, eco, tour, sport or track and watch the instrument cluster change as the vehicle adjusts. These modes take full advantage of the vehicle’s features without requiring a complex number of individual adjustments every time you get behind the wheel.

Steering has also been improved with a 500% increase in stiffness that started with adjustments to the steering wheel and continued right down to the tires. Styling updates give the car an updated more international look and a lower, wider stance gives track drivers a superior experience.

She considers things a bit more carefully now, but still has a weakness for fast, beautiful cars. When not drooling over cars, Nicole writes for Wired’s GeekMom.
