Ford re-launched the styling direction of its luxury division at the Detroit Auto Show with a Ford Escape based new concept car called the Lincoln MKC.
The elegant small crossover is designed to point the way for Lincoln from now on. Like all new Lincolns, the Lincoln MKC Concept Car has a push button shifting and according to Ford the new small Crossover also allows for the driver to personalize the car.
While it is too early to tell if the MLC will end up actually looking like this Lincoln MKC concept…most people who saw the car unveiled like the clean and elegant design direction of the concept car.

Editor’s note: I’m a little stunned at the lengths Lincoln went through to showcase the MKC Concept. The massive Lincoln pavilion, complete with a massive catwalk/runway, should have housed several concepts. Lincoln needs to impress views and, despite looking pretty good, the MKC Concept is not enough.
In my opinion, I believe Lincoln needs to re-establish their dominance as a cigar-smoking, hard-drinker’s, slick-looking automaker . Go gonzo on the styling and remind Americans why you were cool.

Lincoln could steal substantial market share from the luxury brands’ SUVs (BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, Audi, etc.) by combining Volvo-like quality/functionality with a tad above Ford pricing; thereby not cannibalizing the Escape model. Price just enough above the Escape and yet throw-in things like free maintenance and 4 or 5 year bumper-to-bumper combined with visionary design including plug-in hybrid turbo diesel engine which would yield in excess of, say, 65 mpg, and volume sales alone will bring marginal luxury manufacturers like Acura to their knees. Increase reliability to that of Lexus and even Audi will feel the heat of competition as they are, in my view, overpriced and under reliable.
