BMW has just revealed its second-generation 2014 BMW X5 M50d performance diesel SUV based on the 2014 X5 and we can’t have it. The X5 M50d, is a sporty SUV from BMW’s M Performance line and it features a triple turbocharged 3.0 liter straight–six producing 381 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque.  This motor has the most specific output per liter of any diesel engine.  Across the pond, the engine is available in 5-series and X6 models. The X5 M50d uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive.

The vehicle goes from 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds.  Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. European owners can enjoy these numbers along with other very satisfying figures: 35 mpg and 177 grams of CO2 per km.

The BMW X5 M50d comes with the full onslaught of M Performance upgrades which include Adaptive M suspension with Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension at the rear axle, 19-inch M light alloy wheels, a subtle aero kit, a sports steering wheel, metal scuff plates and M badging. The M50d is certainly in a class by itself, but with Porsche’s Cayenne Diesel S and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon available, it is certainly not alone as a beaslty school-run vehicle

The X5 M50d goes on sale in selected markets this November. That’s about when sales of the new 2014 BMW X5 lineup commence in the U.S. We’ll get xDrive35i and xDrive50i models initially, with an xDrive35d diesel to arrive early next year.  There is little difference between European and U.S. models with the exception of the X5 M50d, of course. Prices have not been revealed for the Autobahn burning SUV just yet. There are still some toys that are reserved for the home market. The BMW X5 M50d is certainly one of them.
