The Volvo Concept XC Coupé world debut at the ’14 North American International Auto Show

The Volvo Concept XC Coupé hits at what Volvo’s future design direction is. Don’t be surprised to see (near) future Volvos with a taillight pattern that mimics the Volvo Concept XC Coupé. Volvo is already producing good looking, sculpted exteriors, but this is something fresh and exciting. This new design direction is the first under Volvo’s new Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath.

I like the tighter lines, bolder face and powerful stance. Nice.

“The Concept Coupé was the first of three design studies. The next chapter in Volvo Cars’ new design story showcases how the company’s famous safety technology as well as a contemporary Scandinavian active lifestyle could be integrated into the new architecture. The Volvo Concept XC Coupé will make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on Jan. 13, but full details including press release, videos and images will be published on Jan. 8.”

Historically, Volvo built wagons that would be transformed into crossover-like vehicles. Either that or, they built crossovers that weren’t particularly off road savvy. The Volvo Concept XC Coupé truly looks like a combination of (light) off road ability and on-road tossability. Can’t wait to see this concept in person.

“The Concept XC Coupé builds on the Volvo’s proud history of Cross Country and XC products, with Volvo Cars having created the niche in 1997. And in anticipation of the reveal of the car in early 2014, Volvo Cars now shares the first three images of the car as well.”
