Detroit: 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe – Calls BMW 4-series to Battle

What is the formula for a successful sporty luxury coupe?  The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe shows us its answer and interpretation, and it’s a similar recipe used my competitors.

The new performance coupe retains the wheelbase of the sedan, but the track width grows by nearly an inch front and rear.  The Coupe aims for higher performance with decreased weight, a 50/50 weight distribution, and more power from the turbocharged four cylinder.  The 2.0-liter now makes 272 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque between 3,000-4,600 rpm.  The 0-60 mph sprint is estimated at 5.6 seconds.  The 321 hp 3.6-liter V6 returns, but the entry-level 2.5-liter four cannot be ordered in the coupe.  There is 6-speed manual transmission option with the 2.0T and RWD only.  AWD and 6-speed automatic transmission are available with either engine option.

The style of the new Coupe stays conservative.  The tail-lights are bigger than those on the sedan, but most eyes will not notice the difference.  The front grille is larger and houses a restyled Cadillac crest.  Still the visual changes are subtle and the lines are straight and clean.

Will the conservative styling approach pay off for Cadillac ATS Coupe?
