Photo of the Day: Mutilated Volkswagen Beetle in California

photo 2 (4)
This rather pathetic looking, mutilated Volkswagen Beetle was spotted in Chatsworth, California. There are times when you, as a car person, want to save a vehicle from its abused reality. This mutilated Volkswagen Beetle is a prime example of someone who got carried away with a sawzall and/or a blowtorch. Who thought this was a good idea? The center span, which looks like the only leftover from where the roof was (roughly) located, doesn’t look like it could support a human pulling on it, much less the weight of the vehicle – so calling it a “roll-bar” should be avoided.

There is a bent tube underneath the mutilated Volkswagen Beetle that looks like a “nerf-bar” but it’s doubtful it’s an aid to the structure in any way much less a strong enough component that can be stepped on.

It looks like the artist who built this mutilated Volkswagen Beetle welded the doors on while covering the seams and hinges. It looks like a mid-1960 version, but it’s difficult to pin down the date of this unfortunate fellow.

Here’s hoping this vehicle has a merciful passing – soon.
