2014 Chevy Malibu Gets Top Safety Pick+ Rating From Insurance Institute For Highway Safety

2014 Chevy Malibu

The 2014 Chevy Malibu with available Forward Collision Alert has just gotten a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

This isn’t the first time the Malibu has gotten high marks from the IIHS, with each of the last four years seeing it earn a Top Safety Pick rating, but the addition of the “+” at the end is a first for the vehicle.

The 2014 Chevy Malibu earns this distinction for achieving both high marks in crash testing as well as for its frontal crash prevention systems. A rating of Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor is given for each of the five crash tests which include Moderate Overlap Front Test, Side Test, Roof Strength Test, Head Restraints Test, and Small Overlap Front.

Tested vehicles must earn a good rating in four out of five of those tests with no less than an acceptable on the fifth test in order to be a Top Safety Pick. The 2014 Chevy Malibu earned a Good rating in all five of those tests.

The addition of the “+” comes thanks to the available Forward Collision Alert on 2LT and higher trim packages. This system uses a camera combined with radar to determine if a collision is imminent and then warns the driver with an audible tone.

Ratings for the frontal crash prevention systems are either Basic, Advanced or Superior. The 2014 Chevy Malibu earned a Basic rating for its system.
