The 2016 Ford Explorer is heading up market & up the power charts with the introduction of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder replacing the previous 2.0L engine.

The new 2016 Ford Explorer’s EcoBoost powerplant puts out 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque….that’s a 13 percent increase in horsepower and an 11 percent increase in torque over the outgoing 2.0L engine. Best of all according to Ford, the new 2.3L EcoBoost turbo-charged engine provides more power without using more fuel. And while the EPA has yet to official rate the 2016 Ford Explorer EcoBoost engine, Ford says the turbo-charged powerplant will achieve 28 MPG on the highway.

The 2016 Ford Explorer is also heading up market with a range topping all-new Platinum series that will be priced upwards of $50,000. That’s very lofty air for a family hauler, but Ford says that its customers love the vehicle.

“Customers love Explorer, and expect this SUV to lead the way in innovation, performance and fun,” said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for the new Explorer. “It’s a tall order, but we’re aiming to build the best SUV in the world.”

“Platinum is the ultimate expression of refinement,” said Christopher Svensson, Ford design director, The Americas. “This is the most premium, high-quality interior we’ve ever offered on a Ford vehicle.”

The 2016 Ford Explorer will also be available with the latest safety, convenience and economy tech including:

• Front and rear cameras with washers
• Enhanced active park assist with perpendicular park assist, park-out assist and semi- automatic parallel parking
• Smart-charging USB ports throughout
• Hands-free liftgate:
• Industry-exclusive 500-watt Sony Audio System
• Active Grille Shutters:
• Air curtains

So far Ford has sold over 7 million Explorers which according to Ford makes it America’s best selling SUV.

The newly refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer will go on sale next summer.
