The VW Golf R400 Concept is coming to the 2014 LA Auto Show. There is also information that the R400 Concept is coming to production, at least in Europe. This would make the R400 the most powerful and quickest Golf in history.
Propulsion comes courtesy of the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with lineage to VW’s WRC racing engines. It makes 400PS (394 hp) or 102hp more than the latest Golf R.
Naturally, the concept uses a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The motorsports-inspired hatchback weighs just 3,130 pounds and has the body widened by 0.8 inches on each side. 19-inch wheels and tires put the power to the ground to the tune of 0-62 mph (100km/h) in 3.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 173 mph (278km/h).
