The 2016 Range Rover Diesel and Range Rover Sport Diesel made their debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS 2015).  Powered by a 3.0-liter Td6 turbocharged V-6 diesel engine that makes 254 HP and 440 lb-ft of torque, the new ‘Rovers are expected to return an impressive 22/28 city/highway MPG rating, and a maximum cruising range of 658 miles.

Find out almost everything you ever wanted to know about the 2016 Range Rover Diesel lineup from TFLcar’s Emme Hall and Land Rover’s Chief Engineer of Diesel Engine Calibration Alan Jones below:

According to Land Rover, the 0-60 MPH times for the Range Rover Diesel and Range Rover Sport Diesel are 7.4 and 7.1 seconds, respectively.  Top Speed for both is limited to 130 mph.   Power is routed through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift™, which allows for normal, manual and sport shifting modes.

Designed from the ground up, the 2016 Range Rover Diesel and Range Rover Sport Diesel’s Td6 engine provides efficiency and refinement. Its block is constructed using Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI), which has a higher tensile strength than standard grey cast iron, better fatigue strength than aluminum, and added stiffness. Its overall advantages in weight and strength mean the block can be lighter and smaller which make it compact in size. The deep-skirted, cross-bolted design and one-piece structural aluminum oil sump of the Td6 help the engine to absorb combustion noise effectively which improves refinement.
