Acura unveiled its revolutionary sport-hybrid NSX supercar at this year’s 2015 NAIAS, with executives stressing throughout the vehicle’s commitment to involving and elevating the human element of the driving experience. Acura VPs, designers, and engineers emphasized the crucial place that the reincarnated NSX represents for the brand, claiming that the supercar will usher in an era of driver focus in all Acura models.

Executives harkened back to the design and performance goals of the original NSX from the mid-1990s, all the while noting that the new NSX simply elevates these goals to a much higher level. The NSX will receive a longitudinally-mounted twin-turbocharged V6 that is coupled with one electric motor in powering the rear wheels in addition to two electric motors powering the front wheels. An update on Acura’s performance-oriented SH-AWD system, total output will be “north of 550 horsepower” through a 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox, according to Acura executives.

Through an extensive use of lightweight steel, carbon fiber, and aluminum, Acura has kept the NSX’s weight to an absolute minimum, while the longitudinal positioning of the twin-turbo V6 makes for an extremely low center of gravity. All of this innovation will come into production in Acura’s newest production plant in Ohio, continuing an Honda/Acura tradition of production in the US that is already thirty years strong.

Pricing wasn’t officially confirmed, but executives estimate that the NSX will start at around $150,000 upon its release in late 2015. Please stay tuned on TFLcar.com for more developments on the production of the all-new Acura NSX. – Frank Kosarek
