Rumors initially pointed to the possibility of the new Ford Focus RS making its worldwide debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS 2015).  Though Ford’s presence at Detroit was unmistakably strong this year, with worldwide debuts of the new GT, 2016 Shelby GT350R and 2017 F-150 Raptor, this mean, green, all-wheel-drive machine was nowhere to be seen.

Speculation now points to the turbocharged Focus RS showing up at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show.  This would only make sense, as in the past, Ford’s “RS” division was based in Europe.  Today, with the launch of the Ford Performance division, however, RS has become a global item.  Ford does insist the Focus RS will be sold in America as well, so does that mean it would make its US debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show?

Either way, we hope the U.S.-market Ford Focus RS will be powered by Ford’s 2.3-L EcoBoost four cylinder, produce north of 300 HP, and be mated to both a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel-drive.  This would offer some serious competition for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI and, with the newfound absence of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, would likely bring a new level of track-worthy competition to the class.
