What was Missing from the 2015 NAIAS?

The 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider made its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

There were a few vehicles that were expected and never made it to the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). This was one of the most energetic, enjoyable, debut-packed auto shows that the TFL team has been to; yet, there were a few gaps in the debuts and concepts that we noticed.

We expected to see:

    • The Acura spin-off of the Honda HR-V: We get it, the 2015 NAIAS is spotlighting the production version of the Acura NSX – period. After all, it is the star of the Acura fleet. Still, there were a lot of consumers who wanted to see vehicles meant for the masses too.

  • The next Nissan Maxima, Sentra Nismo and/or a concept for the next Z: Surprisingly, the 2015 NAIAS was Nissan’s chance to make their 2015 Nissan Titan the only vehicle they debuted. We did discover that the next Nissan Maxima should debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show (which TFL will be covering). We’re not sure about other Nissan vehicles, but we do know this: the 2016 Nissan Titan certainly made for a lot of comments!

  • The 2016 Dodge Journey: We hear that the next generation Dodge Journey may ride on the CUSW platform which underpins the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee, among others. We expected to see a concept or a debut at the 2015 NAIAS, but FCA focused on the debut of the 2015 Ram Rebel – a beefed-up pickup truck. Once again, a truck debut at a show that’s known for car debuts.

  • The 2016 Mazda2: It’s good looking, it’s frugal and it looks like fun… and those pesky Canadians got to see its debut at the 2015 Montreal Auto Show. Those Canadians get all the good stuff.

What do you think was missing from the 2015 NAIAS? With luck, we’ll be able to find these and other missing vehicles at the Chicago and New York auto shows.
