2015 Ford Edge

The 2015 Ford Edge Sport with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 may just be the hot-rod of the segment. The relatively small turbocharged V6 is shared with the 2015 F-150. It’s detuned a little for the Edge to produce 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque @ 2,750 rpm. That is a lot of power and twist for a vehicle that weighs a little over 4,000 pounds in AWD configuration.

Ford has also announced that the Edge Sport 2.7L will deliver EPA fuel economy estimates of 18 MPG city / 27 MPG highway, and 21 MPG combined in the front-wheel-drive model. Can you imagine 350 lb-ft going just to the front wheels? We will have to wait and see how Ford addressed torque steer issues.

The AWD model is rated at 17/24/20 MPG. Pricing for the Sport model starts at $38,100 for the FWD and $39,595 for the AWD. All prices listed do not include the delivery and handling charges.

If you do not need all the power, or want something more reasonably priced – there are two other engine options and three additional trim levels. The Edge SE model comes with the 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder and starts at $28,100. The 2.0L turbo is rated at 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. Although, the little guy requires 93-octane fuel to get the impressive power numbers. It will run on lower octane as well, but with a little less power. It can deliver 30 MPG on the highway and 24 MPG combined in the FWD model.

The third engine choice is the 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 with 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also shared with the new F-150, but with a slightly lower power output. The regular V6 delivers 26 MPG on the highway and 21 MPG combined in the FWD Edge. This model starts at $28,585.

All three engines are paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission.

The SEL model with the 2.0L EcoBoost starts at $31,500. And the Titanium Edge is priced at $35,600. You can go to Ford’s website now to configure the new Edge. It will go on sale in the spring of 2015, or within several months.
