The Chevy Bolt’s production was just confirmed.

Chevrolet has just confirmed that the Chevy Bolt concept will enter production, and will be built at the Orion production facility near Detroit.  The Chevy Bolt EV concept was developed as a long-range pure electric for all 50 states, designed to offer 200-plus miles of range at a target price of around $30,000.

Watch Emme Hall’s interview with General Motors’ Executive Chief Engineer of Electrified Vehicles Pam Fletcher, to discover almost everything you ever wanted to know about the Chevy Bolt concept:

Fletcher was the brains behind the propulsion system of the first-generation Chevy Volt, and has now taken the reins of GM’s future in EV technology.

Either way, concepts such as the Bolt will likely fuel the development of EV charging infrastructure which, in turn, will accelerate future development of electric vehicles from other manufacturers.  Whether or not EVs are our be-all, end-all future of transportation, the Bolt provides a step in a positive direction.

The ultimate question is, will the Chevy Bolt beat the Tesla Model 3 to the 200-mile, sub-$40k punch?
