Ford is getting serious about performance this year and the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R are two high performance vehicles in their growing line-up of cars and truck that are hot on and off the track.

“It’s a street car that performs like a race car.” Lyn St. James, retired professional IndyCar driver and 5 time Indianapolis 500 veteran

The 2016 Shelby GT350 and GT350R have balance, poise, and technology that is all about performance. The 5.2-liter V8 is Ford’s most powerful normally aspirated engine that has an impressive 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. While both cars share the same powerplant, there are some significant differences that separate the GT350 from the GT350R.

This TFL Car video explains how the Shelby GT350R is more track-focused compared with the GT350 and shows the pony car flexing its muscles around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Raceway.

“When we started working on this car, we wanted to build the best possible Mustang for the places we most love to drive – challenging back roads with a variety of corners and elevation changes – and the track on weekends,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Every change we made to this car was driven by the functional requirements of a powerful, responsive powerplant – nimble, precise handling and massive stopping power.”
