The Lexus RX crossover SUV has been adeptly redesigned for 2016 and sets itself up for continued domination of the crossover segment. Now with aggressive styling cues, the 4th generation 2016 Lexus RX is enriched with a more powerful V6 engine, tuned suspension, new safety technology and more choices for personalization.

The first noticeable change is the massive spindle grille that has already been integrated on the IS, RC and NX models. Daytime running lights (DRL) and fog lamps are now LED and come as standard equipment. A premium triple L-shaped LED headlamp is available. LED rear combination lamps light up the tail and have a wraparound design.

Two powertrains and four distinct models comprise the 2016 RX model line-up. The standard RX 350 has a V6 with direct-injection and new 8-speed transmission. The RX 450h hybrid has an Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 and electric motor combination. F SPORT models, visually distinguished by a mesh grille, have all-wheel drive as standard equipment and are available for both the 350 and 450h.

Underneath the new look is a strengthened chassis optimized for straight line stability. Keeping the ride comfortable and stable is a fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts at the front and a double wishbone setup at the rear. An electronic Adaptive Variable Suspension is available with the F SPORT to ensure the best ride and handling depending upon conditions and driver selection. 18-inch wheels are standard, but now Lexus offers new 20-inch alloy wheel designs – one of which can be configured with one of three colored inserts.

Safety is a serious concern at Lexus and the RX features Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) that is standard across the line. The LSS+ is more than just the ten airbags that come standard with the RX, it is a system designed to avoid having those airbags deploy. A pre-collision system, Lane Keep Assist, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are active safety systems included as standard equipment with LSS+. Available features to assist the driver further are automatic high-beams that adapts to surrounding light and oncoming traffic, Panoramic View Monitor that gives a 360-degree top view of the crossover and its surroundings, and blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.
