Is the Lexus ES next in line to get the carmaker’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder? Spied by TFLCar’s alert photographers is possibly the Lexus ES 200t high altitude testing the turbocharged four cylinder engine.
Everyone from BMW to Audi to Mercedes to Lincoln uses turbocharged four-cylinder engines throughout their lineups, so it makes sense for Lexus to move its predominantly V6–powered vehicles into this decade. Especially since the turbo-four has more power and torque over the 2.5-liter V6, and it is more fuel efficient with cleaner emissions.
Lexus won’t tell us which models would receive the turbo four – or when – but did say that the small engine would replace the 2.5-liter V6 in a variety of Lexus vehicles worldwide. In the U.S., the company has already inserted the turbocharged 2.0-liter four into the NX 200t, the 2016 IS 200t and 2016 GS 200t , a move that brings Lexus’s powertrain offerings closer to the European brands with which it competes.
