California has 300-plus sunny days a year and a clear blue skies with temps in the low eighties is forecasted the first week of the Los Angeles Auto Show. Could the setting get any better for the North American introduction of the Range Rover Evoque convertible – the world’s first luxury crossover SUV convertible with true all-terrain capability?

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, commented, “The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering add another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal.”

The distinctive profile of the Evoque remains true to the hard top model due to an advanced fabric roof engineered to fit flush with the rear bodywork and minimize any intrusion into rear cargo area. Rear cargo area is tight at 8.9 cubic feet.

A Z-fold mechanism stows the roof less than 20 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. Raising the roof back on top only takes 21 seconds.

The new Evoque Convertible has room for four adults and is equipped with an all-new version of Land Rover’s infotainment system for everyone to enjoy. It includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, sat-nav and a premium sound system.

To allow you to enjoy all these features in comfort, the fabric roof has been trimmed with a special acoustic lining to ensure levels of refinement are as close to the hard-top as possible.

The Evoque Convertible looks nearly exactly like the original, except for a few minor aesthetic changes on the front. The new alloy wheels and LED fog lamps are also unique on this new soft-top model.

The Evoque retains the same 240-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder engine and 9-speed automatic transmission as its hardtop brother and comes with a powertrain that switches between front- and all-wheel drive, depending on road conditions. Zero to 60 mph performance is good at 7.8 seconds. Underneath is the same underpinning and advanced technologies as the Range Rover Evoque five-door and coupe versions.

Watch for the Evoque Convertible to go on sale mid-2016 with a starting price from $50,475. Until it comes to your neighborhood, watch this “everything you ever wanted to know” video of the brand new Range Rover Evoque Convertible.
