Once in a while, we are fortunate enough to have a fan reach out to us and let us test his car. Is it bragging rights that are sought out? Is it the opportunity to see what the car can do? It doesn’t matter. All that matters is that this 2006 Mitsubishi EVO MR is one of the fastest cars to ever go around the test track, and it has over 180k miles on it.
The Mitsubishi EVO MR seen here is equipped with a 6-speed manual and a 2.3-liter turbo four, drinks E85, and spools up almost instantaneously. The owner estimates the car has about 400 hp fed to all four tires. With upgraded tires, coilovers, and brake pads, the EVO turned in one of our fastest lap times yet of just 1:03.14 minutes. That’s faster than the 2016 BMW M2 we tested by about half a second. Perhaps the “vortex generator” on the rear of the roof had something to do with it?
Zero to 60 mph came in 4.59 seconds, also besting the M2 by about half a second. Good news for someone who doesn’t have the funds for a new car but wants to run with the best of ’em.
