The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback will join the Civic sedan and coupe lineup this fall. We got close look at the hatchback at the 2016 New York Auto Show where it appeared in concept form. However, the production model you see here looks nearly identical to the concept, with the exception of the wild concept car paint scheme and the fog lamps.

The excitement continues under the hood with the 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine, which is good for 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. If this is not enough, then there is an option for a high-flow center-mounted exhaust system that boosts the power to 180 hp, while peak torque remains the same. The more powerful option is available in the Sport and Sport Touring trims. The Hatchback can be had with either a CVT or a “performance-inspired” 6-speed manual transmission in the EX, Sport, and LX trims.

The Hatchback serves as the basis for the ultimate performance variant of the Civic, the Type R, which will be announced at a later date.

While the Civic Hatchback has the looks and the power, it also offers class-leading interior space and utility and good efficiency. The Hatchback offers a hug 122.9 cu-ft of interior volume and 36 inches of rear seat legroom. Honda expects the 2017 EPA ratings for the CVT equipped models to come in at 31 MPG city, 40 MPG highway, and 34 MPG combined.

We look forward to putting the Civic Hatchback through its paces. Stay tuned to TFLcar for more!
