EDITOR’S NOTE: This story originally announced that the Hellcat would be all wheel drive; this is not the case, only the GT version will be all wheel drive. The story and headline have been corrected to reflect these changes.

Many have been hoping for this news for some time: an all-wheel-drive version of the Dodge Challenger. Automotive News reports that Dodge will introduce an AWD version of the Challenger called the GT AWD, as well as a wide-body version for the Challenger Hellcat.

The Hellcat will be called the Challenger ADR (American Drag Racer), according to the report.

The all-wheel-drive version of the Challenger should go on sale during the calendar year 2017 as an 2018 model. The complete redesign of both the Charger and Challenger have been moved to calendar year 2018. Both cars are said to be transitioning to a new Giorgio platform which should allow for a weight reduction of between 400-500 lbs.

Dodge showed a customized Challenger GT AWD with a wide-body kit at the 2015 SEMA show.

The report includes updates on other Dodge vehicles. Earlier rumors that the Dodge Durango is being discontinued are not true. The AN report states the Durango will get a light update in 2017 and an SRT version with the 6.4L HEMI V8 (no Durango Hellcat news at this point). May all the soccer dads and soccer mom rejoice!
