Honda Civic Type R to make North American debut at SEMA [News]

Fresh from its worldwide debut in Paris, the Honda Civic Type R will make its North American debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

The Type R is the uber-Civic, with a hopped-up turbocharged engine and the looks to back it up. Honda hasn’t released power numbers yet, but it will wear 20-inch piano black allow wheels and 245-section tires under its beefed-up Civic Hatchback skin.

The Type R will be joined by a host of other custom Civics that Honda is calling “Civicpalooza,” presumably because they couldn’t think of anything more original. Two racing Civics and other production-based customs will be on display at the Honda booth.

The racing Civics will include the Global Rallycross (GRC) Red Bull Civic and the Team Honda Racing West endurance racer.

Among the custom Civics are two from inside Honda, one being a Civic Hatchback chock full of Honda Factory Performance parts and a Civic “Body-In White” designed by Honda Performance Development to give racing teams an easier time of creating a race car out of a production car.

Of the rest of the custom Civics, the most interesting one has to be the Sega Sonic the Hedgehog Civic sedan, which has Sonic blue paint, a custom decal of the titular video game character, and custom seats with an embroidered Sonic logo. A 32-inch LCD television screen that pops up out of the trunk for hours of Sonic the Hedgehog gaming is the cherry on top.

The 2016 SEMA show takes place from November 1 through November 4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Stay tuned to TFLcar for complete coverage from the show, including interviews with Honda representatives about the Type R.
