We here at TFLcar are huge proponents of buying used cars. In many cases, you can find a fantastic deal on a great car, saving yourself thousands of dollars. One of the biggest reasons for these savings is depreciation. It is something that almost every new car buyer has to deal with. What it means for the used car buyer, is that somebody else pays the full price and takes the depreciation hit, while you laugh in your almost new car that cost you $5,000 less than it was new.
We have put together a list of the best used cars you can buy, that have been under-appreciated or under-valued. Among this list are some cars which have depreciated immensely, while others simply didn’t sell well in the first place, and have been under-appreciated by the automotive world. We have had the chance to drive them, and we think they are worth more than their prices suggest.
First up is the Jaguar XKR-S. This monster originally stickered for north of $130,000 but now can be purchased for around $34,000. What you get for the price of a brand new Golf R is twice the cylinders, plus a supercharger, that all result in 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. So why is this monstrous Jag so cheap? Well now that the F-Type is out it feels a bit outdated and with most luxury brands, it is no longer the latest and greatest, so its price plummeted.
Another fantastic car on this list is the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V wagon (with 6-speed manual). The wagon in general has a somewhat split opinion in the US. It seems like people either love it, or they hate it. We at TFL could not be more in love with the wagon, so when Cadillac made a wagon version of its CTS-V, and then fitted it with a stick, we were instantly sold, as was every other automotive journalist. In total, Cadillac only made 500 CTS-V wagons and it seems that automotive journalists were the only ones who actually bought them. With a supercharged V8 under the hood and a fantastic manual transmission. Fortunately for the keen buyer, one of these beasts can be found for around $33,000-$38,000, a steal for what you get.
