The Audi Q8 concept is a luxurious, production-ready plug-in hybrid crossover [NAIAS Video]

Instead of having a typical crossover hybrid vehicle, Audi is looking to bring a different look and feel to the segment.

Audi introduced its Q8 concept crossover vehicle at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit recently, which showed off the sleek and luxurious look of the new vehicle.

The vehicle will likely go up against the BMW X6 in terms of competition. Audi officials said the vehicle offers plenty of space for passenger and cargo with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid.

The vehicle can go up to 60 miles on the electric motor and up to 621 miles on the combined electric and gas engine system.

The vehicle also offers a lot of state-of-the-art features including touch screens, a virtual cockpit and other controls.

“The Q8 concept is an Audi in peak form,” said Dietmar Voggenreiter, member of the board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. “It demonstrates the strengths of our brand in both technology and design while providing a glimpse at a future full-size, production SUV. With its next-generation display and control solutions, we are enabling customers to experience connectivity in a whole new way.”

Audi officials said the front and side views of the new Q8 make show that this crossover is more sleek and sporty. Inside, besides the technology features, the luxury offerings extend to the roominess. The luggage compartment has 22.2 cubic feet of cargo space.

Under the hood, the Q8 has a 3.0-liter TSFI gas engine that produces 333 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor produces 100 kW of power and 243 lb-ft of torque, information from Audi indicated.
