Does the world need another four-door luxury performance SUV coupe? Absolutely! This is precisely what Land Rover/Ranger Rover is doing. Enter the 2018 Range Rover Sport Coupe (may also be known as “Range Rover Velar”). Think of the existing Range Rover Sport with a lower and sleeker roofline and a longer proportion. Several sources suggest that the latest entry into the SUV Coupe segment will make its world debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this March, and it could go on sale as a 2018 model.

The Range Rover Sport Coupe will do battle against the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Is there room for this sport-luxury crossover in the Land Rover/Jaguar lineup? There does not seem to be at first glance. The Sport Coupe could unintentionally take away sales from the Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover’s own Sport. However, success of the X6, GLE Coupe, and other coupe-like luxury crossovers made the case for the latest Range Rover.

Will it be just as capable off-road and just as quick as other Range Rover Sport models? The answer is likely – yes. You can expect engine options to reflect what is currently available in the Sport: 3.0L supercharged V6, 5.0L supercharged V8, and perhaps even a turbo-diesel. It’s yet unknown whether the Sport Coupe will be offers in the hot SVR trim.
