TFLnow: Everything You Need to Know from the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Press Briefing [Video]

At this year’s LA Auto Show, Jeep rolled out the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Jeep since invited Roman and Andre out to Tuscon, AZ to drive and learn about the all new Wrangler. This video is a live recording of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL press briefing. Due to the live nature of the video, there were some issues with audio quality. Please excuse the poor audio, we promise it gets better later on in the video. This video will tell you everything you need to know about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler!

From the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Press Briefing: More is More

Jeep really wanted to focus on adding more to this new Wrangler. More performance off-road, more fuel economy, more comfort and convenience features. At the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Arizona, Jeep officials go into more detail at the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL press briefing. They had a long list of complaints and problems to address from the previous generation, and they believe this new Wrangler is the answer to customers’ concerns.

Styling

Of course, with a new generation of Wrangler comes a new look. Jeep says that they have tried to remain true to Jeep’s heritage while also adding in some necessary improvements to help with functionality. The headlights are all new, as a part of the new grill. Once a heavy criticism of Jeeps, these new LED headlights should have no problem lighting up the road.

The small vent behind the fender is functional as well. It helps to relieve air pressure in the engine compartment to get rid of noisy air buffeting at highways speeds. On the Rubicon, the fenders are a full two inches higher to allow for 33″ tires to be fit from the factory. However, Jeep says that you can fit a 35″ tire under these fenders with no problems.

Features

Some of the more notable features include a new roof option. In addition to the full hard and soft tops, there is a power folding soft top that the Jeep press displayed in this video. Improvements have been made to the full soft top to make it easier to take off and put on as well. The doors are now made of aluminum, making them easier to take off, and the front window has been made drastically easier to fold flat.

Powertrains

Jeep has said that there will be three engines available on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. First is the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 which makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Next is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that makes 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft torque. There are two transmissions available. First is a good old fashioned 6-speed manual (not available on the 2.0L unit). Then there is an 8-speed automatic. In any case, power is sent to all four wheels, as you would expect in a Wrangler.

The press team from Jeep goes into great detail about this vehicle in this video. Be sure to watch the whole thing to find out everything you need to know about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL.
