Take Three: Honda Insight Prototype

The Honda Insight was the first commercially-available hybrid in the U.S., but ultimately succumbed to the more popular Toyota Prius. When it first debuted, it was a funky, futuristic three-door hatchback. However, over time it gained stiffer competition from the Prius. It was priced too high and fizzled out in the marketplace, so Honda dropped it by the 2014 model year. However, the comeback model looks more promising. It’s a five-door sedan this time, sized between the smaller Civic and larger Accord. It’s still a hybrid, sporting a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine and a new generation of Honda’s hybrid system. Responses have been positive thus far, so we’ll see how the Insight fares against its arch-nemesis this time around.
