The latest conceptual offering from Toyota off-shoot Scion, the C-HR, made its first appearance at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The C-HR concept vehicle is the industry’s most recent step towards abandoning actual words and opting for alphanumeric groupings (just alpha, in this case) of characters as the standard naming convention. In this case, the vehicle is Compact with a High Ride height. Designed with young urban creatives – or yuccies – in mind, Toyota’s international design team set out to develop something distinctive that portrays an active urban lifestyle.
Based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), the C-HR concept sits on 21-inch wheels, features a piano black roof, and graphite black accents on the grille, rear bumper, and fender flares. When gathering input from potential customers, Toyota’s designers were told “Polarizing is ok. Boring is not.” Scion believes that sentiment is reflected in the overall design of the C-HR concept, we’ll let you be the judge. In either case, the design team appears to have taken notes from the 2016 Prius when sculpting the front end.
Other specifics about the concept were scarce but we do know the vehicle is slated to eventually make it to production, with the production version debuting sometime in 2016.
