GM unveils volt for Europe and Australia

General Motors has called it a "game changer" car.

The 2011 Chevy Volt is GM's great hope to stay viable as an international manufacturer of cars.

Now GM has unveiled photos of the Volt for its European brand Opel and its Austrian brand Holden.

The Opel Ampera, will make its public debut at the Geneva Auto Show on March 5th and be sold in Europe as of 2011.

However
it still remains unclear if Opel will continue to be a GM brand in
Europe. The most recent reports have GM spinning-off Opel as part of
its restructuring plan.

You'll note that the Opel version of the
Volt is much more futurist looking than its mechanically identical
cousin the Volt. Both cars are full plug-in hybrids capable of driving
up to 40 miles on a charge before the gas engine has to engage to
charge the batteries car's batteries.

According to Fox News:

"The
designers at General Motors' Australian division, Holden, don't seem to
be as ambitious as their European counterparts, merely swapping their
company's lion head logo for the Chevrolet bowtie. Given the small size
of the market Down Under, about 1 million cars in total per year, they
probably won't be selling enough of them to justify a major redesign
anyway."
