The February automobile sales numbers are horrendous.

General Motors sales were down just over 51 percent.

Ford sales sank by just over 46 percent, and Chrysler sales tanked by almost 42 percent.

But the biggest sales decline by far was Hummer, which saw a massive 67 percent drop in sales followed by Saab which had sales drop 61.2 percent.

In fact only three Automobile brands saw increases in sales. Hyundai, Kia and Subaru were the only car companies that actually had single digit sales increases.

But what's bad for the car companies is good for new car buyers. Used car prices are up, and new car prices are way down.

A brief survey of local dealership revealed some screaming new car deals on luxury brands.

If you are lucky enough to be in the luxury car market at Sill-Terhar Motors in Broomfield you can buy the locally hugely popular Volvo XC wagon at a $12,000 discount. The Volvo dealership is selling several 2008 slightly used demo cars for just over $32,000. The original M.S.R.P sticker on those cars is well above $44,000.

If you are more into green SUVs you can get the 2008 Lexus 450 Hybrid at Stevinson Lexus of Frederick for just over $43,000. Just a few months ago that car was almost impossible to purchase below the $50,000 sticker. And since the car is a 2008 hybrid model it also qualifies for $3,200 state tax rebate bringing the "real" cost to below $40,000.

If you are looking for screaming bargains on less expensive models take a look at Chrysler. The Detroit company is offering employee pricing plus manufacturer rebates on many of their models. In real money this means you can subtract between $5,000 and $6000 from the M.S.R.P sticker on many of Chrysler's most popular cars.
