Cafe standards will raised to 35.5 mpg by 2016

Fuel-efficiency 35.5 mpg that the new magic Cafe Standards number.

President Obama announced the new Federal fuel efficiency standards today at a White House press conference.

Beginning in the year 2012 the national fuel efficiency standard will match that of California.

By
2016 the new national standards for both cars and light trucks will be
35.5 miles per gallon—that's about 40 percent more fuel efficient and
cleaner than today's cars.

"For the first time in history, we
have set in motion a national policy aimed at both increasing gas
mileage and decreasing greenhouse gas pollution for all new trucks and
cars sold in the United States of America,” President Obama said as he
stood flanked by officials from various states.
