Video: R.I.P. Jaguar X-Type

Xtype

The much criticized and somewhat unsuccessful baby Jaguar is dead.

Jaguar has announced that it will stop making the X-Type in December, and at the same time it will cut 300 jobs from its Merseyside, England, production plant
through "voluntary redundancy only."

"We have taken unprecedented
actions to cut costs, including reduced production volumes, significant
cuts to investment plans and some 2200 job losses," Jaguar head David
Smith said in a statement, "Ceasing production of the X-Type early,
with further redundancies and temporary shutdowns at Halewood, is
necessary to protect our other investment plans."

So
will the X-Type be remember as classic Jaguar, or as a failed
experiment for the up scale brand to move into a more down market
segment?

Time will certainly tell, but for now you can watch this classic Top Gear video review of the X-Type Jaguar in the snow:
