The Penske Automotive Group is on track to formally close the deal which will give it ownership of the GM's Saturn automotive brand as early as this Thursday according to published reports.

"The original agreement called for GM to continue building the Saturn Aura sedan and the Vue and Outlook crossovers for two years. The sale is expected to save 350 U.S. dealerships," according to the Detroit Free Press.

Penske Automotive owns the second-largest U.S. automobile retail chain
in the country as well as being a key distributor for the Smart car.
Penske also owns heavy-duty engine manufacturer Detroit Diesel and has
race teams in the IndyCar, NASCAR and Grand-Am series.

GM is selling Saturn, which has some of the highest customer satisfaction ratings, as part of its bankruptcy restructuring plan.
