Mercedes annouces new iPhone app that unlocks your car anywhere in the world

Iphone So how many times has this happened to you?

You are away on business in let's say New York, and your Mercedes in Chicago and you need to unlock the car.

No worries, Mercedes has got you covered.

A new new iPhone and Blackberry app, that's part of the new Mercedes so called mbrace technology will let you unlock the car from anywhere in the World with cell phone coverage.

According to the New York Times:

"Another handy iPhone and BlackBerry app will locate your car and
provide directions — ideal for those of us who tend to forget where we
parked at the mall. And unlike similar functions on some portable
navigation devices and smartphone apps, this one does not require you
to remember to pinpoint your car’s location when you park.

The first six months of mbrace service will be free for new-car buyers.
After that, it’s $280 a year for the basic service; the “mbrace plus”
package adds a human concierge who can make restaurant reservations and
tell you about the traffic ahead and offer an alternate route."

"When we first launched our Telematics platform it contained features
many vehicles still lack today, and now we want to take our offering to
the next level," said Sascha Simon, director of advanced product
planning, MBUSA.

"With mbrace, we begin the introduction of a whole new
generation of innovative and personalized services that fit our
drivers' mobile lifestyles, keeping them connected to the people,
places and services that are important to them and offering them
enhanced safety, security and navigation options. Most importantly, the
flexibility of Hughes Telematics' architecture will also allow us to
continually add new features and innovations that will keep
Mercedes-Benz on the forefront of in-vehicle services."

mbrace replaces Tele Aid, (the current MB system). Most current Mercedes-Benz owners with the Tele Aid system
will be eligible to upgrade to the new mbrace system, according to today's Press Release.
