Infiniti to take a swing at BWM M cars with a new IPL performance line of cars

Almost Everybody knows that M, at least in BMW lingo, stands for speed, power, and performance.

Lexus has the F, Mercedes-Benz has an AMG performance division, Cadillac gets very serious and very fast when you get into a V and of course Audi is all about the S when it comes to performance.

So it should come as no surprise that Infiniti want to join the speed club with its own line of in house specially tuned performance cars.

How does “IPL” as in “Infiniti Performance Line,” sound to you?

According to Autoweek.com:

"Nissan has filed for trademark protection for the names “IPL” and “Infiniti Performance Line,” according to documents on file with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

According to the applications, the IPL trademark would cover the brand's use of “high-performance motor vehicle parts,” including turbochargers and superchargers for engines, cat-back exhaust and muffler systems, shifter knobs, suspension parts, brakes, sports seats and off-road headlights."

But while there is no official word on this story from Nissan, Ben Poore a VP of the Infiniti Business Unit, told reporters recently he plans to unveil a new performance-oriented line of cars this summer.

Sounds to us like IPL will be the new monogram for speed and performance at Infiniti.

And you know what the bean counters love it as well.

A BMW 535i starts at $49,600 while the M5 goes out the door at a staggering a $85,700. That's a lot of profit for small letter in the alphabet.
