Just in: 2012 Cadillac SRX gets bigger 300 HP engine

To be honest it is becoming hard to keep track of all of the engines that power Cadillac’s newest and best selling crossover: the SRX.

Originally there were two engine choices:

1) a 3.0L direct-injected V-6 with 265 horsepower and

2) a 2.8L V6 turbo engine that produced 300 horsepower

Cadillac killed the turbo and now the company has announced that it will upgrade the 2012 SRX with a 3.6L V-6 engine that produces 300 HP and 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of torque or the same amount of power as the old turbo.

Cadillac says the new 3.6L engine will get about the same mileage as the old non-turbo 3.0L which…BTW…is rated at 18 city/25 highway mpg.

And while the Lexus RX350 still outsells the SRX, according to a Cadillac:

“With the new engine, the SRX is projected to top the Lexus RX350 in horsepower and torque. Lexus rates the RX350’s 3.5L V-6 engine at 275 horsepower (205 kW) and 257 lb.-ft. (348 Nm) of torque.”

“SRX is resonating with luxury buyers by offering the function of a crossover and the distinctive style of a Cadillac,” says Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing. “Now, we’re raising the standards even higher by providing the SRX with enhanced performance. The new engine will make the SRX more responsive for passing on the highway, entering freeways from on-ramps and climbing hills.”

The new SRX with the bigger engine is expected to hit showrooms this summer, and Cadilac has yet to announce pricing for the improved SRX.
