Photo of the Day: two iconic East German stalwarts now both disappearing into history

Today is the 50th anniversary of the rise of the Berlin Wall, which divided Berlin and came to define the Cold War. This statue made by German artist Euer Helge shows a Trabant breaking the Berlin wall.

Both the Berlin Wall and the Trabant are iconic symbols of East German communism and both are now disappearing into the swirling mist of history.
