It is official. The French 1884 De Dion Bouton et Trepardoux (the world’s oldest running car) has sold for double the expected amount.

As you may recall from THIS story and video the 127-years old Dos-a-Dos is a steam-powered car that also happens to be the oldest vehicle in the world…at least that still in running condition.

Just this week the old car sold for $4.62 million at at packed house at RM’s Hershey auction. The Dos-a-Dos sold for twice the expected amount and the new owner is just the 5th person to have owned the car.

You have to admit that’s a lot of money for a car with a top speed (on a good day and good road) of just 37 MPH.
