Project Pickup – Cold Air Intake power boost

tflcar project pickup cold air intake

After performing an ECU tune, what is the second simplest power enhancement that you can do for your vehicle?  It’s installing a Cold Air Intake (CAI).

In this episode of the TFLcar Project Pickup, we (except for Roman) get our hands dirty and go under the hood.  We turn our attention to the breathing efficiency of our 2002 Chevrolet Duramax Diesel.

Our friends at Autoanything.com provided this Airaid MXP Series CAI system.  Nathan and Andre “The Russian Mechanic” teamed up on the install, and completed the job in just under 20 minutes.  It was a very straight forward and easy installation.  The old parts came out relatively easy, and the Airaid system fit snug and without any adjustment issues.

As a result, the truck got a little faster and turbo spooling sound got a little louder and sounds very nice!  We will watch the fuel economy on the Project Pickup after this upgrade, so please stay tuned as we report on how this upgrade affected the MPGs if at all.
