Shelby is moving into the future without good ol’ Carroll Shelby around with theĀ 2013 Shelby Focus ST . Still, this little Focus ST was in the planning stages while he was alive – I think. What does this car offer over the alreadyĀ outrageous Ford Focus ST?

As near as I can tell, suspension and visual upgrades for now. According to Ā ‘Shelby Performance Tune’ will be available soon, For now,theĀ 2013 Shelby Focus ST will cost $14,995… after you supply them with a Focus ST. The base model Ford Focus starts at $23,700. So, around $40,000 will get you one of theseĀ 2013 Shelby Focus STs.

I was somewhat surprised that Shelby would have this vehicle on the floor of the 2013 NAIAS without supplying performance information about the Shelby Performance Tune. As it is, the regular Ford Focus ST puts out 252 horsepower – which is a LOT. More impressive is the 270 lbs-feet this thing puts out. That’s a-friggin’-LOT!

The Shelby upgrades seem to consist of suspension, brakes, wheels, cladding, tires, interior trim and graphics. Power/performance-wise, there is a Borla cat-back exhaust system and a short-throw shifter. If you were to do all of the upgrades on your own, you would be spending thousands more.

I will say this: it certainly looks fast. Give that there only 500 are to be made this year, this 2013 Shelby Focus STĀ could be a good investment too. Don’t take my word on that last part. I am terrible at investing.

Would Caroll Shelby have approved of the 2013 Shelby Focus ST?

Look at it this way: he built the sleeper hot-hatch, the Shelby GLH-S (a rocket turbo hot-hatch based on the Dodge Omni) – and he got a hell of a chuckle out of it. I bet he’s still laughing.

Check out this hot-hatch, it’s one of our favorites!

Pretty cool – no?
