The 2013 Ram 1500 has won the North American Truck/Utility of the Year as announced this morning at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS). This is the second time the Ram 1500 has won the award, with the first time being back in 1994.

The winner is determined by a panel of 49 jurors from Canada and the United States who whittled the possible North American Car of the Year winners down to a list of three finalists that included the Ford C-Max and the Mazda CX-5. The 2013 Ram 1500 beat out both vehicles to secure the title.

The North American Truck/Utility of the Year has gone to domestic automakers 13 times, Japanese automakers four and European automakers three times. This year is the first that sees a name change from Truck to Truck/Utility in order to recognize the SUVs and crossovers that have taken home the award recently.
