Is this Hyundai HND-9 Concept a peek at the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe?

This is the Hyundai HND-9 Concept and it points to the next step in Hyundai’s design direction.

The Hyundai HND-9 Concept is representative of Hyundai’s next design direction. Unlike the current Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Hyundai HND-9 Concept has a much more angular look. Packing a 3.3-litre turbo GDi petrol V6 which should be good for over 365 horsepower, the Hyundai HND-9 Concept sports Hyundai’s eight-speed automatic transmission. Hopefully, a six-speed manual would find its way into the mix as well. The Hyundai HND-9 Concept is a rear-drive, 2+2 sports coupe.

Good looking – no? Personally, I like the looks of the current Hyundai Genesis Coupe – but it already looks a tad dated, so a major update would be welcome. Don’t hold your breath for the butterfly doors – it, along with the future-car-like interior, probably won’t make it to production.

Look at those rear haunches, very Aston Martin-like. Look at those lights – I’m feeling a Lamborghini there. You know what? An affordable sports car that has hints like those is mighty tempting right out of the box.

Here’s Hyundai’s take: “Fluidic yet sleek character lines that stretch from headlamp to trunk, voluminous, powerful car body and a striking, wide hexagonal-shaped radiator grille underscore the high performance image of the concept. Furthermore, butterfly doors, spiral-shaped lines connected to the headlamp, softly glistening  silver coating, dual twin exhaust and uniquely designed head and rear lamps give the car a sleek futuristic look.

As a rear-wheel drive, high-performance sports coupe concept, HND-9 is equipped with 3.3-litre turbo GDi petrol engine and eight-speed auto transmission, delivering maximum output of 370ps.” – – Hyundai Media UK

The Hyundai HND-9 Concept debuts on March 28th at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show.
