GM’s media site reveals some additional details about the new Ecotec3 6.2-liter V8 engine that will be doing duty in the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra.  First detail is the power output.  The site lists the big boy V8 at estimated 420 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.  These numbers are not yet SAE certified (they are listed as “estimates”).  Just as with the 5.3-liter, maximum horsepower arrives at 5,600 rpm and maximum torque at 4,100 rpm.  Interestingly, the big V8’s redline is listed at 6,000 rpm (200 rpm higher than on the 5.3).  The Silverado 6.2l also has higher compression (11.5:1).

The 6.2-liter is not yet rated for fuel economy, but the towing rating is there.  A 2WD Crew Cab with a standard 6’6” bed and a Max. Trailering package is rated at a nice round 12,000 lbs.  Max. Trailering package includes a 3.73 rear axle ratio.  If you opt for the 4WD model, the max towing rating is down to still impressive 11,700 lbs.
