Saleen Automotive Inc. has just come out with a killer Mustang, the 700 horsepower Saleen 351. The supercharged 351 cubic inch V8 makes 700 hp and a lofty 655 lbs-feet of torque. Sporting a red “butterfly” center ram air intake and unique aerodynamic body components, the 351 Saleen is entering its production phase.
“The amount of detail that we had to put in this vehicle is astounding”, said Steve Saleen. “I feel our team has struck the perfect balance of design, technology, and [of course] power.” – – Saleen Automotive Inc
The Saleen 351 joins other Saleen products including the 570 Challenger Label making up to 535 hp, and the Camaro 620 Camaro that makes up to 450 hp. The Saleen 351 will be offered with a convertible and hardtop option. Prices have not been announced, but it should be north of $80,000.
I grew up in Southern California, right down the street from the original Saleen shop. Back then, they primarily dealt with Mustangs. There have been many changes over the years in the company and with the products they service, but their commitment to speed remains.
Saleen is currently taking pre-orders for the 351. According to Saleen Automotive Inc.: Shortly after the unveiling of the prototype at the Knott’s Ford Show in Southern California, the Saleen 351 is moving forward into production.
