Public opinion of the KTM E-Speed (a design study) has been so positive, KTM announced that the KTM E-Speed wil be available for purchase in 2015. The KTM E-Speed is powered by an electric motor that makes just under 15 horsepower (15PS) and a very useful 26.5 lbs-feet of torque (36Nm). There are no chains, power moves to the real wheel via a belt.

“We believe in the electro-mobility on two wheels. Because offroad sport is our core area, we have developed an E-Crosser, the FREERIDE E, but we are also convinced that urban mobility can succeed in urban areas. Because of the very positive feedback following the Tokyo presentation, we have decided to transfer the results from the development of the E-Cross bike also into the road segment. The E-SPEED is our interpretation of emission-free propulsion for city use, but without compromising on the design and sportiness of our KTM genes!“ Harald Plöckinger, KTM Executive Board Member for Production and Business Development

Top speed will be just over 50 mph (84 kilometers per hour). When fully charged, the range should be just about 40 miles (64km).

I normally do not report on two-wheeled vehicles, but the KTM E-Speed looks amazing and, given KTM’s reputation, should handle great. A sexy electric scooter? Yep, it’s finally been made. No word on prices yet, I suspect it will be on the more expensive side of electric scooters/bicycles. The KTM Freeride-E, which comes out soon, is supposed to be over $12,000 – but, it’s a proper motorcycle/stunt-bike. The KTM E-Scooter is just a scooter, so I’m guessing it’s on the premium side of small scooters putting the price well over $3,500. That’s just a guess folks.
