News: P1800 Successor is this Striking Volvo Concept Coupe?

2013 volvo concept coupe p1800

We all have heard a lot about the classic Volvo P1800 coupe recently.  We are all impressed by the 3 million mile that Irv Gordon drove in his 1966 P1800.  Now, Volvo gives us another striking reason to recall the stylish coupe from the 1960s.  Enter the Volvo Concept Coupe.

This design study is a combination a many elements.  While it’s easy to get excited about this Volvo Concept Coupe and start asking about its production release date, this two-door has other immediate purposes.  First, it is an example of Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).   This concept is built on top of a production minded platform.  Next, it is a hint of where Volvo’s new Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath, is heading.  And in particular, this coupe is supposed to foreshadow some design element that will soon be revealed on the 2014 Volvo XC90.  Take a good look at the horizontal “T” shaped LED running lights and the grill.  The all-new XC90 is supposed to be revealed at a major auto show next year.
