The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is ever closer to reality as the production version was revealed at the 2013 LA Auto Show.  It’s an all electric vehicle and has no range extending generator.  Its electric motor produces 115 horsepower and 199 lb-ft   of instant torque, and it’s backed up by a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery.  You can fully recharge the e-Golf in approximately four hours, or get an 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes by using a DC fast-charge station (similar to Tesla’s Supercharger).  It has a maximum range of 110 miles, or an average range of 70-90 miles.  This makes is comparable to capabilities of the Nissan Leaf.

You will be able to identify the 2015 e-Golf by the unique grill, wheels, LED running lights, and all LED headlights.  However, you will have to wait another year to purchase or lease the all electric Golf.  It goes on sale in late 2014 in the following states:

  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Washington D.C.
  • Vermont

It should expand to more states in the calendar 2015.
